PAFFREL observes 356 social media posts violating election laws

We are following up all the reported incidents to the United Nations, Commission of Elections and Facebook representa­tives for their necessary actions

PAFFREL said yesterday that they had observed at least 356 posts that had been published on social media in violation of elections laws and false news.they said that they had commenced an observatio­n and monitoring activity for the social media publicatio­ns on the Presidenti­al Election.

They said there were more than 11,000 social media pages of candidates, websites of political parties and popular and attracted pages or sites.

The PAFFREL social media team has reported 49 of them directly to the United Nations while 101 of them have been reported to the Elections Commission and then to the Facebook authoritie­s.

“We deployed two separate teams full-time for this task. One team is deployed to look into the pages/sites technicall­y and the other observes the informatio­n derived out of these pages/ sites for further analysis and actions. We have been covering all social media publicatio­ns in all languages throughout the day, the PAFFREL said.

PAFFREL said they would continue to observe and monitor social media publicatio­ns until two weeks after the election, and will pursue the same further, if required.

“We are following up all the reported incidents to the United Nations, Elections Commission and Facebook representa­tives for their necessary actions and are prepared to support with resources/evidence when required. PAFFREL has already written to the Facebook representa­tives on the possible misuse of Facebook during the cooling period,” they said.
