The night of the CHAMELEONS

-

Two weeks after Halloween, Colombo will come alive again when the newly elected president is known. Party colours and loyalties will change immediately after the winner is announced and there will be a clamour to be in the favourites’ list of the new elected leader. Colombo is famous for changing its colours like a chameleon since very few are stalwarts. It is going to be a fun weekend and a week ahead listening to and observing these shenanigans.

Whilst a number will be busy seeking last minute favours, the general public have been horrified with some happenings in the past week. Social media is overflowing with the mudslinging and hurled curses at certain high ups whilst some families are torn apart with heavy hearts. The only hope is for a bright future.

As one can expect, Saturday night will be a night of high anxiety with people getting together to listen to the results of the day’s polls. All night parties have been organized with lots of goodies to see the night through and some great breakfasts too. Watching and listening to all of this has been great fun, as long as people, mainly friends, do not fall out or get into heated arguments about their choice of candidate. After all, friendships are not worth destroying over politics.

Many are planning to migrate on Sunday and may result in some heavy traffic on the Katunayake highway.

Whatever the outcome, let us all enjoy the night and hope that the result will please most of us; there will be plenty who will not be pleased with the result. The fun part will be watching all the chameleons changing their colours just to hob knob with the new leader.
