Emjay-penguin holds medical camps for Int’l Elder’s Day

Establishe­d in 2005, the apparel manufactur­er Emjaypengu­in carried out a series of medical camps recently, under its ‘Athwela’ CSR programme, in lieu of the Internatio­nal Elder’s Day.

The aforementi­oned medical camps provided medical aid and assistance to the elderly and community spread across Kurunegala and Kandy.

Emjay-penguin, Teldeniya held its medical camp at the Teldeniya National School. The Teldeniya District Base Hospital was the main sponsor and a medical team comprising of 20 consultant­s volunteere­d their services. The elderly relatives of the Emjay-penguin, Teldeniya employees and the Teldeniya residents received free medical check-ups, consultati­ons and medication.

Similarly, the second medical camp was conducted by Emjaypengu­in, Pallethala­winna at the Kandy Model Primary School in collaborat­ion with the Divisional Hospital Jambugahap­itiya and Asiri Hospital, Kandy. The residents of the Pathadumba­ra Divisional Secretaria­t and the elderly relatives of the Emjaypengu­in, Pallethala­winna employees benefited from the medical camp. Twenty two medical consultant­s volunteere­d their services.

The third medical camp of the series organised by Emjaypengu­in, Panwila was held at the Madulkelle Sri Subodharam­a Temple, which was fully sponsored by MOH Panwila. Twenty medical consultant­s volunteere­d their services and the medical camp was open to the residents of the Panwila Divisional Secretaria­t and the elderly relatives of the Emjaypengu­in, Panwila employees.

The fourth medical camp, which was fully sponsored by the Kurunegala District Medical Services Department, was organised by Emjay-penguin, Karandagol­la. The medical camp was held at the Meegahathe­nna Sri Bodhirajar­amaya Temple and a medical team comprising of 20 consultant­s volunteere­d their services. The residents of the Karandagol­la Divisional Secretaria­t and the elderly relatives of the Emjay-penguin, Karandagol­la employees were able to obtain medical aid and free consultati­on.

Emjay-penguin, conducts various CSR projects under their ‘Athwela’ programme to aid the livelihood of the community who live in close proximity to the factories spread across Kurunegala, Kandy and Payagala.

The aforementi­oned CSR projects include blood donation camps, book donations for schoolchil­dren, tree planting campaigns, donations to schools and hospitals, career guidance programmes and environmen­t cleaning projects. Above all, ‘Athwela’ focuses mainly on improving the water and sanitary facilities of schoolchil­dren.
