Nawaloka Hospitals crash to nine-wicket defeat WEEKEND MATCH RESULTS:

-

2018 ‘E’ Division winners, Nawaloka Hospitals crashed to a humiliating nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Maliban Biscuit Manufactories in the ongoing 1st ‘Cbl-munchee’ Trophy – MCA ‘D’ Division 40–over League Tournament 2020 last weekend.

Nawaloka, batting first, was bamboozled by Venura Gayashan (4 for 13) and Kavinda Bandara (4 for 4) and fell like ninepins for a miserly 55 runs in 20.4 overs; Maliban went home to lunch, chasing down the target in 16.2 overs for the loss of just one wicket.

Fancied Central Finance (2019 ‘D’ runnersup), who surprisingly lost their opening game to Melwire Rolling, regained some of their lost prestige when they romped to an 8-wicket win over Delmage Group.

An inspired spell of bowling by Melwire Rolling’s Duminda Maduranga (5 for 38) went down the drain as Hemas piped them by 22 runs; largely thanks to a fighting half-century by Iroshan Herath (53)

Elsewhere, first-timers Mode Engineering registered their first win in Mercantile Cricket, beating MAS Bodyline by 24 runs; the win was fashioned by bowlers M. Theekshana (4 for 15) and M. Keerthibandara (3 for 17).
