Slowing down to smell the Mistletoe

-

Rush, rush, thoughts are million miles an hour, children to be woken up, fed, washed, housework to be supervised, organised, Christmas preparations to be commandeered, kids to be entertained, fights to be stopped, diplomacy practised, relatives to be visited, sick children to be administered to, play-dates, Christmas shopping, non-scary Santas to be searched and found, scraped knees to be red crossed, fairy tea parties to be attended, bedtime stories, teen dramas to be averted, end of the day chores... with more of the same tomorrow and the next day. These are just the usual every day tasks, with the end of the year looming, the business of Xmas and New year festivities, our everyday commotions just went into overdrive! The day and life of an everyday mother is indeed a fascinating scientific experiment undiscovered. We are a constant whirlwind of activity putting in our all whether it is physically caring for our children or mentally stressing over their well being. We rev up ourselves into a tsunami of activity, never stopping until the job or child is done and dusted. But we are after all human..all tsunamis do eventually dissipate..rather than tire ourselves out and eventually burn and crash, remember to take that moment in the business of it all for just for yourself. Have a coffee with a friend, stop and listen to some music, even do a bit of exercise... anything that is just for you and your mental and physical rejuvenation. It can be five minutes to an hour, if you have the time, make sure it is all for you. A happier person is a happier parent with even happier kids. Slow down to pull a cracker, and just smell the mistletoe. Happy Holidays!
