Positive Parenting Habits to thrive

-

PARENTING THOUGHT for the week

Generally “habits” have a bad connotation to them, like biting your nails or procrastinating online. But there are also good habits to be pursued and adopted. With the beginning of the year, each of us are on a mission to find the better versions of ourselves. Whether we succeed or not this is always a positive attitude to have in life.

The wanting to better ourselves. An easier way to succeeding in this mission is to develop good habits. The secret power of a habit once acquired is that they are not easy to break. Therefore this year, rather than plough through another set of self inflicted resolutions, try and turning them into habits that will stick for a lifetime. As parents, when we consider bettering ourselves, a greater part of this is focused on improving our parenting. Being a parent that you can be proud of, feeds into your overall happiness. Therefore this year, try and develop a habit each month, then at the end of the year you would have 12 good habits that would have helped you progress in the ladder to personal success. These could be small things like, I will make a habit to read with my kids or I will make it a habit to go for a family evening walk. I will make it a habit to not first respond with anger, but to listen and then make judgment. I will make it a habit to turn off all electronic devices when having that one on one time with my children. These are just some small, but achievable habits to cultivate, which in the end will have bountiful rewards! Get started today!
