-

Lanka Hospitals, the internationally accredited multiple award-winning healthcare provider partners with the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan, the Rotary Club of Newton, New Jersey USA and Gift of Life International.

The objective of the partnership is to support the Lady Ridgeway Hospital in providing treatment for a waiting list of children who require surgery for congenital heart disease as part of their CSR initiative to give back to the community.

Lanka Hospitals will be offering its services at no cost to support the children at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital where currently the waiting list of children who require treatment for heart disease stands at 1,500.

The services will be extended to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital with the objective of minimising the large list waiting list of children who are currently in immediate need of treatment for congenital heart disease.

Currently, about 3,000 children are born with congenital heart disease in Sri Lanka each year, and approximately 2,000 of these children will require surgery. However many succumb to their illness or develop irreversible life-long complications due to the inability to receive immediate access to treatment.

“Lanka Hospitals has the technology, fully equipped operating theatres, specialised consultants and an experienced team to perform all types of surgeries, including paediatric cardiothoracic surgeries. We recognise the urgent requirements of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital and feel that it is our responsibility to support the children who are currently in vital need of care. Therefore we consider it a privilege to extend our support in partnership with Gift of Life and Rotary,” Lanka Hospitals Group Chief Executive Officer Dr. Prasad Medawatte stated.

Speaking of the partnership Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan President Jehaan Ismail said: “We are very grateful to Lanka Hospitals for giving their time and expertise to enable so many infants and young children in our country the opportunity to a full life. We started working with the team from gift of life mid-2019 and have pledged to perform 50 surgeries through the Rotary, which is shared across a number of other reputed private hospitals in Colombo. Having eminent consultants of Lanka Hospitals onboard allows us to give more children affected with congenital heart disease the opportunity to live.”

Lanka Hospitals is the first hospital in Sri Lanka to be awarded some of the most prestigious accreditations in the world for its healthcare service standards including the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation since 2014, and the world respected Medical Tourism Certification from the Medical Travel Quality Alliance (MTQUA).

Furthermore, Lanka Hospitals Diagnostics (LHD) is the only Sri Lankan laboratory to be accredited by the prestigious laboratory accreditation body, The College of American Pathologists (CAP).
