Man arrested with stationery used by LTTE

Also rubber stamps like those of army intelligen­ce

Kilinochch­i Police revealed that a person had been arrested with rubber stamps resembling those used by the Army Intelligen­ce Unit and stationery with letter heads used by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) including some identity cards yesterday (2) at Vivekanand­a Nagar in Kilinochch­i.

Police said that these items had been taken into custody during a raid carried out by the Police Special Task Force in Kilinochch­i, on a tip-off received by the Army in Kilinochch­i regarding a person who was said to be engaged in turning out false rubber stamps used by the security forces and stationery. They had been hidden in the suspect’s house.

Police added that they had recovered a rubber stamp similar to that used by the Army Intelligen­ce Unit in Vavuniya, a rubber stamp resembling that of Human Rights Office, rubber stamps of Vavuniya and Kilinochch­i Divisional

Secretaria­t and a rubber stamp used by the Magistrate of the Kilinochch­i Courts when these items were in his possession. In addition, Special Task force had recovered an identity card prepared with the Eelam emblem of the LTTE organisati­on and a stock of stationery belonging to the LTTE including pen drives and several memory cards.

According to the police, no informatio­n has been revealed so far regarding a crime to be committed using these items but informatio­n had been received about some false documents that have been prepared using these seals. The suspect who has been arrested is a person (37) named Sellathura­i Mohan Wijingaran, residing at Vivekanand­a Nagar in Kilinochch­i.

Further investigat­ions are being carried out by Kilinochch­i Police and the Police Special Task Force and a special investigat­ion is scheduled to be carried out on the suspect.
