TREAT ALL CHINESE WITH DUE CONCERN : MAHANAYAKE THERA

All-night pirith at Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy

Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Warakagoda Gnanaratha­na Thera called on all Sri Lankans yesterday to treat all Chinese people in the country with usual helpfulnes­s and show them that Sri Lankans are concerned about them.

The Mahanayake Thera in a statement said that there will be an all-night pirith chanting at the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy tonight, especially for the people in fear of the outbreak

of novel coronaviru­s. “It is no secret that the outbreak of a virus named Corona has affected the Peoples Republic of China and has shown signs of spreading to other parts of the world. It is also very visible that the Chinese government has done its utmost best in the control of this virus. Likewise, all other countries are taking precaution­s and doing their very best to ensure the stability of public health. Our own government has done a wonderful job by coordinati­ng the health department, the Tri Forces and the National airline to bring back the people in the virus affected areas in China and also control it inland as well” the statement said.

The Thera said that it was very important for Sri Lankans to remember that China and Sri Lanka has had a very long bilateral relationsh­ip and it was the moral duty of Sri Lankans to stand by them at this crucial hour of need.

“During our long-standing connection­s we have shared religion, culture, technology, education and its generous contributi­ons in our developmen­t. He said that the Buddhist leaders of Sri Lanka were doing all they can in the spiritual aspects to help clear this fear from all beings in the world. “In our prayers, we chant the Rathana Sutra which the Buddha used to cure the ancient city Vishul Malta Nuwara from a deadly disease” the statement added.
