TREAT ALL CHINESE WITH DUE CONCERN : MAHANAYAKE THERA
All-night pirith at Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy
Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera called on all Sri Lankans yesterday to treat all Chinese people in the country with usual helpfulness and show them that Sri Lankans are concerned about them.
The Mahanayake Thera in a statement said that there will be an all-night pirith chanting at the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy tonight, especially for the people in fear of the outbreak

of novel coronavirus. “It is no secret that the outbreak of a virus named Corona has affected the Peoples Republic of China and has shown signs of spreading to other parts of the world. It is also very visible that the Chinese government has done its utmost best in the control of this virus. Likewise, all other countries are taking precautions and doing their very best to ensure the stability of public health. Our own government has done a wonderful job by coordinating the health department, the Tri Forces and the National airline to bring back the people in the virus affected areas in China and also control it inland as well” the statement said.
The Thera said that it was very important for Sri Lankans to remember that China and Sri Lanka has had a very long bilateral relationship and it was the moral duty of Sri Lankans to stand by them at this crucial hour of need.
“During our long-standing connections we have shared religion, culture, technology, education and its generous contributions in our development. The Government of China has stood by us in our times of need. It is evident that they supported us even at the time of war even at the United Nations Conference. In recent times they have made generous contributions to our development and most of our achievements like the tallest TV tower in South
Asia. Norochcholai power and energy project, Moragahakanda reservoir and the Colombo Port City are with the aid of the Chinese government and its people” the Thera said in his statement.
He said that the Buddhist leaders of Sri Lanka were doing all they can in the spiritual aspects to help clear this fear from all beings in the world. “In our prayers, we chant the Rathana Sutra which the Buddha used to cure the ancient city Vishul Malta Nuwara from a deadly disease” the statement added.
