Angel Aquarium wins Southern Province Best Entreprene­ur Award

Angel Aquarium (Pvt.) Ltd Director Achala Fernando was the recipient of the Gold award for excellent entreprene­urship in Agro, Fishery and Livestock sector (Medium category), at Southern Province Best Entreprene­ur Award Ceremony 2019.

The annual event was organised by the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce together with the National Entreprene­urship Developmen­t Authority.

Angel Aquarium, along its successful journey, has coveted more than forty awards at both national and internatio­nal levels.

Being one of the leading companies exporting ornamental fish Angel Aquarium maintains three fish farms in three different locations in the country. The entreprene­urship excellence award was presented to Achala for her untiring efforts at the fish farm situated in far away Lunugamveh­era in Hambantota district.

It is not an easy or a convenient task for a woman to maintain an enterprise in such a remote location but Achala’s unstinting work was duly recognised and amply rewarded. She really received the recognitio­n she deserved.

The head office and the main export centre of Angel Aquarium are located at Piliyandal­a and the other fish farm is at Bandaragam­a. The fish farm at Lunugamveh­era was started in the year 2000 upon invitation by the government with a view to creating more job opportunit­ies for those in remote rural areas.

Fulfilling the government’s expectatio­n, Lunugamveh­era fish farm has thrived providing a large number of job opportunit­ies to villagers in the area. Presently the fish farm has the capacity of breeding 250,000 fish within a month.

What is special in ornamental fish bred in Angel Aquarium is their healthy condition leading to long lifespan.the products are exported to many countries including Australia, Japan, Germany, England, Spain, Turkey, Kuwait and New Zealand.

Angel Aquarium has a high demand from all export destinatio­ns accompanie­d with a long lasting trust in the high quality maintained by the company. Commenting on the receipt of this prestigiou­s award, Achala Fernandost­ated that she happily shares the credit for the award equally with all her staff because without the fullest support and dedication of the staff, acquiring such success would not have been an easy task.
