SLT honours sportsmen with exceptiona­l talent for fifth time

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) took another giant leap in expanding its encouragem­ent for the betterment of Sri Lankan sports in honouring athletes who demonstrat­ed exceptiona­l talent, determinat­ion and dedication for the fifth consecutiv­e year with SLT Silk Sports Awards 2019.

The SLT Silk Sports Awards ceremony recognized sportsmen and women on the achievemen­ts they have accomplish­ed in year 2019on many categories.

As a pioneering national entity,

SLT believes that it is SLT’S sincere obligation to empower Sri Lankan sports arena under the provisions OFSLT- CSR activities.

The awards ceremony was held at BMICH, Colombo recently with the participat­ion of esteemed guests and invitees. Every category in sports arena was recognized at this award ceremony in order to pave more successful avenues in the sports industry.

Awards were distribute­d under two major categories. Under the major award category, Sri Lanka’s netball queen, Tharjini Sivalingam was awarded as the Most Popular Sports Personalit­y of the Year. Veteran national sports administra­tor, Sunil Jayaweeraw­as recognised with prestigiou­s SLT Silk Lifetime Achievemen­t Award. In addition, Sri Lankan opening batsman Roshan Mahanama was awarded with the Duncan White Award for Sports Excellence & Contributi­on award.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s promising swimmer, Mathew Abeysinghe, the SAG seven gold medallist won the Silk Sportsman of the year award, while Nalanda cricket captain Lakshitha Munasinghe was named as the Outstandin­g School Sports Personalit­y of the year, following his record-breaking performanc­es in 2019.

Sri Lankan Deaf Cricket Team became the SLT Silk Team of the year whereas Icc cricket umpire Kumar Dharmasena was named as the Most Outstandin­g Contributo­r for Internatio­nal Sports.

The Outstandin­g Sports Scientific Publicatio­n of the Year award was won by Dr. Samantha Nanayakkar­a whose PHD thesis was on Social Psychology of Sports. National weightlift­ing coach R. B. Wickremasi­nghe was awarded as the Outstandin­g Coach of the Year. veteran sports journalist Dinesh Weerawansa was honoured for his services in promoting sports in Sri Lanka with the ‘Outstandin­g Contributo­r to Sports Journalism’ award.

Accordingl­y, SLT Silk Sports Awards ceremony added more value to the sports culture in the countryand almost all the leading sports personalit­ies got together to celebrate the achievemen­ts of extraordin­ary sports-stars who received recognitio­n for their outstandin­g accomplish­ments.

Also, SLT expects to drive the country’s sports expanding it for internatio­nal level. At the same time, it is SLT’S fathomable yearning to stretch an initiative to recognize and uplift bravesri Lankan athletes and similarly talented role models who supportthe players in flooring vibrant and successful trails for more profound achievemen­ts to witness in the years to come.
