CFA Sri Lanka to host Research Challenge 2019/20 Local Finals today
CFA Sri Lanka will host the CFA Institute Research Challenge in Colombo for the 13th consecutive year.
CFA Sri Lanka, a representative of CFA Institute – the global association of investment professionals made up of portfolio managers, investment advisors, educators and other investment professionals – will hold the local level final round of this global competition today (February 6) at JAIC Hilton.
Kicking-off the competition on September 12th, 2019, the preliminary local round saw the participation of ten teams from leading universities and business schools in Sri Lanka.
Each team was required to conduct an in-depth analysis of Ceylon Cold Stores PLC, this year’s selected company for analysis and submit a written research report with an investment recommendation.
This year’s five-member teams included two teams each from University of Colombo, University of Sri Jayawardenapura, University of Peradeniya, University of Wayamba and teams from University of Kelaniya and University of Uvawellassa.
Submitted research reports were evaluated and scored by a panel of veteran CFA charterholders comprising of premier investment professional from frontline corporates in the country. The four teams selected for the final roundwere the University of Wayamba, University of Peradeniya, University of Colombo and University of Sri Jayawardenapura.
The final round to be held this Thursday (6th) will see the finalists presenting their investment thesis to a panel of judges, followed by a grilling Q& A session. The presentation will be the culmination of months of research; interviews with company management, competitors, and clients; and investment research and presentation training, including training conducted by Moody’s Analytics Knowledge Services.
The winning team will partake in the Asian Pacific regional round of the completion to be held in Seoul, South Korea in March 2020.
