ACTING UP!

A Drama Workshop Especially for Teenagers

-

If you are a teenager and are looking for a space to shed your inhibitions and boost your confidence while also firing up your imagination and honing your performance skills, Acting Up! is the perfect platform. It is a Drama workshop especially designed for teenagers, comprising a mix of drama, games and improvisation activities.

Drama games are short and focused and can range from basic ice breakers to more complex team challenges requiring cooperation and coordination. They are a wonderful tool for self-discovery and help create a clearer awareness of strengths and skills. They also offer a safe and friendly avenue for self-expression. Needless to say, they are exceedingly fun and the release that laughter offers is unbelievably relaxing. The team games break barriers between strangers and could even pave the way for lasting friendships.

Improvisation is, in a nutshell, acting without any prior preparation. This means you will be thinking on your feet, letting your imagination run free. It involves the ability to balance creativity with credibility – building a scene that engages the audience and makes them believe that, no matter how bizarre the portrayals, they are acceptable in that moment. It also requires being attuned to your fellow actors, responding appropriately and facilitating movement in the story. Response time is super quick, as you decide when to take control and when to step back and make space for another actor.

The workshop is conducted by Marissa Jansz, a qualified Drama teacher with years of local and international experience under her belt. She has taught Drama as an academic subject and has run Drama Clubs as an extra-curricular activity in secondary schools in Sri Lanka and Singapore. As a director, she has led many schools to victory at the Inter-school Shakespeare Drama Competition as well as the Inter-school Drama Competition organised by Royal College. A specialist in working with teenage actors, her training has helped lay the foundation for some well-known theatre practitioners.

All you teenagers, mark your calendars: Sunday, 16th February from 10:30am-12:30pm. It will be a morning of high energy and excitement. You can make new connections and enjoy the thrill of trying out new and different things. Best of all, you get to be a star, even for just two hours!
