Graduates of SLIATE will be exposed to foreign job markets
Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE) would be upgraded to University level shortly with the objective of giving opportunities to degree holders of SLIATE to find employment in the foreign job markets, State Minister of Technology and Innovation, Thilanga Sumathipala said.
Minister Sumathipala added that he did not accept the perception that there was an unemployment problem in Sri Lanka but the dilemma was that we don’t have qualified and skilled people for specific jobs in the domestic job market.
He made these remarks at a meeting with student representatives of the SLIATE at Dehiwala when he made an observation visit to the Institution. He made a request to SLIATE students urging them not to think along conventional lines in matters relating to the upgrading of SLIATE degree awarding status, and other affairs of the institution but to join hands in stepping forward.
“Let’s step forward with understanding and equipped with novel methodologies”, Minister Sumathipala told the students.
The Students representatives expressed their belief that action will be taken to upgrade the institution in a manner that would safeguard the rights of free education of the students as the majority of student pursuing studies at SLIATE do not come from wealthy backgrounds.
This event was also attended by Mr. Chinthaka Lokuhetti, Secretary to the ministry of Technology and Innovation, senior officials of SLIATE, Mrs. S.S Samarakkodi acting director of SLIATE – Dehiwala.
