MABOLE UC LAND’S TITLE DEED GOES ‘MISSING’

Concern over houses built on the land of the children’s playground

The Kattiyawat­te Welfare Society has complained to the Wattala Police regarding an alleged acquiremen­t and building of two houses on a 20-perch block of land of the children’s playground in the Ma bola, kat ti yaw at te housing complex belonging to the Wattala Mabola Urban Council.

The Welfare Society has also complained to the Wattala - Mabola Urban Council and Presidenti­al Secretaria­t as well, in writing.

On enquiry from the Works Superinten­dent of the Wattala-mabola UC Thilak Priyadarsh­ana, he said that he visited the disputed location and an investigat­ion had been launched into the issue.

He said instructio­ns had been given to halt constructi­ons until the investigat­ions were concluded.

The Superinten­dent said,the title deed of the concerned land had been misplaced and they were looking for it.

the selling of the 79 perch cultivated land located at Hendala Junction, under Wattala - Mabola Urban Council, against the provisions of the Section 36 of the Urban Councils Ordinance and thereby committing an offence under the Section 184 (1) (a) of the Urban Councils Ordinance.

The Ministry of Local Government is also conducting a separate investigat­ion into the leasing of valuable blocks of land consisting of several acres belonging to the Wattala - Mabola UC.

Residents of the Kattiyawat­ta housing complex said they were concerned if the Kattiyawat­ta children’s playground under the UC had been alienated or had been sold unofficial­ly.
