MEET THE CAST OOPS!

IT'S A CROSS DRESSER CASH ON DELIVERY

- BY SHESHAN DIAS

“OOPS IT’S A CROSSDRESSER! CASH ON DELIVERY WILL BE HELD ON THE 28TH AND 29TH OF FEBRUARY AT THE LIONEL WENDT THEATRE. TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE LIONEL WENDT BOX OFFICE

Jith Pieris' latest theatrical endeavour, “Oops it's a cross dresser! Cash on delivery”, is a riotous farce that is bound to have you in stitches! After talking to Jith himself last week and getting a few insights on what the play was about and his take on it, we spoke to the cast to see how they were prepping for the show.

“This is definitely a must watch for everyone” says

Meth Bandaranaike

who is playing the lead role, Eric Swan. Meth describes his character as the Landlord that creates imaginary tenants in order to unlawfully claim Social Security benefits. “Eric is not really a relatable character except in the fact that if I were too scared to own up to a lie I would spin up so many cover up lies in order to get out of it, which won't really help me at all, but nonetheless it's a really fun character to portray” he added.

“I'm probably the most clueless person in this play” says Jehani Muthukuda who plays Eric's wife, Linda Swan. According to Jehani, Linda suspects that Eric is either a crossdresser or that he's cheating on her. She thinks this because he refuses to tell her what's going on in his life and he's being really mysterious about his actions. She added with a laugh “We are in love and it's a really awesome marriage except for the fact that I think that he's cheating, or being a crossdresser.” Portraying a woman that has been married for nearly 10 years has apparently not been easy, but at the same time Jehani claims that acting alongside Meth made the process much easier. “He slid into the role very easily and after that it was just a matter of falling in sync with him” she said.

Julian Anderson who is no stranger to riotous comedies will be playing the role of Norman

Mcdonald, who is Eric's only real tenant. Julian claims that comedic roles are often the hardest to portray as there is barely any time to form a character arc within the play. “Norman has a huge character arc and there is barely enough time to bring out all those emotions. Although I've acted in comedic roles before, it took some time to understand this character and to comfortably ease into the role” he added. Julian also praised Jith for giving the actors their creative freedom to portray the roles as it best suits them and only making changes to characterisation when absolutely necessary.
