Musaeus, Gateway to Battle for Marie Musaeus-rohini Alles Challenge Trophy

The third annual encounter between Musaeus College and Gateway College that is played for a trophy which commemorat­es two outstandin­g women who have made their mark in the field of education will be held on Saturday, 29th of February from 2:00 p.m. onwards at the Gateway College Grounds in Ratmalana. The main focus of the encounter will be the Under 20 match between the two schools. An exhibition match will be played between Bishop’s College and Gateway College Kandy; and due attention will be paid to upcoming talent by incorporat­ing an under 15 match at the start of the event. A friendly match between the past pupils of the two schools will be played prior to the main encounter.

The players to be watched this year include Aneesha Perera, Captain and Vishmika Rathnayake, vice-captain of Gateway College who represente­d Sri Lanka at the Asian Youth Netball Championsh­ip in Japan and Randuli Subasinghe, Captain and Nethmi Wijenayake, vicecaptai­n of Musaeus College who represente­d Sri Lanka at the Under 16 South Asian Netball Championsh­ip held in Nepal in 2019. Gateway emerged champions of the Internatio­nal Schools Netball tournament 2020 while Musaeus Under 17 team clinched the recently held All Island Milo Netball Championsh­ip. Musaeus College won both encounters played previously.

Ms Somitha De Alwis, former captain and coach of the National Netball Team will be the chief guest of the event. Mrs Rohini Alles, Managing Director of Gateway College will grace the occasion as the guest of honour. The lively and fun-filled event will also include Western and Eastern Band Displays of both schools. VIP guests, the Management of both schools, Staff, Past Pupils and Parents are expected to grace the event.
