FAMILY OF SIX ARRESTED FOR DISTRIBUTI­ON OF HEROIN

Astock of 2000 packets of heroin and 500grams of heroin in a parcel were seized and six suspects arrested by the Mount Lavinia Anti-vice Squad during a raid on a house at Kahatagaha­watta in Deltara off Piliyandal­a. The Police had carried out the raid with the help of sniffer dogs.

The suspects aged between 16 and 51 years of age were all members of one family which included the mother and a daughter who had rented the house about four months ago for Rs.25,000 a month. Investigat­ions have revealed that they had been carrying on the racket for a considerab­le period.

Frequent visits by individual­s during the day and night, who stay for a short while and leave had aroused the suspicion of the land lord who had informed the Mount Lavinia SSP Rohan Premaratne.

The police said the suspects had been engaged in making packets of heroin when the police raided the house. The electronic scale and a stock of papers to make packets carrying the picture of a Red Indian had been seized during the raid. Under interrogat­ion the suspects revealed that they had been dealing with drug peddlers in several areas including Moratuwa, Panadura, Mount Lavinia and Badovita.

OIC Anti-vice Squad Neil Priyantha, SI Shehan, Sergeants 33704 Gurusinghe, 2747 Janaka, PCS 75654 Laxman, 87654 Lakmal, 93744 Silva, 93746 Balakumar, 93746 Jayawarden­e, 54972 Ranjith and 86040 Basnayake are conducting further investigat­ions on the instructio­ns of SSP Premaratne.
