Para Shuttle Time Programme on March 1

-

Sri Lanka Badminton in partnership with Special Olympics Serendib will organise a Para Shuttle Time Programme on March 1, at the SLB Stadium Courts at Maitland Place.

This is a long-felt initiative which stems from a global partnership that the Badminton World Federation has with Special Olympics International.

Badminton Asia supports this initiative and Sri Lanka Badminton thus welcomes the launch of this programme which will serve as the fore-runner of a long-term plan between SO Serendib and SLB to fulfill mutual interest in offering their experiences and opportunities to people with intellectual disability.

Special Olympics serve people with intellectual disability in 176 countries worldwide.asia Pacific is no different and Sri Lanka has been progressively drawn into the scheme of things.

In Sri Lanka SO Serendib covers 25 Districts and a host of sports, Badminton being one of them. For SLB, Pradeep Welagedera is the Programme Coordinator and hopes to bring 25 Coaches and 25 intellectually disabled persons to a day-long programme that runs into three sessions imparting skills and routines ended with a simple award ceremony.

SLB President, Rohan De Silva will be the Guest of Honour on the invitation of SO Serendib Chairman, Dr. Nimal Ayiththa Kariyawasam. Leo Club International is also associated with the programme which is expected to draw well-wishers and friends from all three organisations.
