A Duty-bound Grama Niladhari

- Guardian

There were so many instances the local media have reported about issues related to the Rs.5,000 relief paid to the people who have lost or unable to continue their livelihoods due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Though it was an arduous task, some government officials have controlled the situation much to the appreciation of the people and the higher officials.

The Grama Niladhari of 176B of Galwetiya in Wattala is one such example who is serving his people with impeccable honesty and impartiality. He volunteered to visit each household to inspect the situation personally and with his team of officials/volunteers he is doing his best to bring relief to the people who had faced untold hardships due to curfew and lockdown. Whenever people visit him, he gives a patient ear to their problems and provides suitable solutions and guidelines. He is very sensible and impartial to all who reside within his division. Wattala is a town with people of all three ethnicity live peacefully and with great understanding.

It is true the state officials are under pressure from various quarters, but this gentleman works so hard to ease the problems faced by the people who live in his division and shows good humanity irrespective of ethnic differences. The public are so thankful to the relevant ministry that handles the local bodies and urge the government to appoint Grama Niladharis of his calibre, who serves the people from his heart.
