KOICA donates PPE to Technical Education and Training Department

On May 11, 2020, the Government of Republic of Korea through the Korea Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n Agency (KOICA), the grant aid division of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka, held a donation ceremony at the KOREA ODA Centre, in Colombo 8.

To fulfil the KOICA’S vision ‘Leave no one behind’, the KOICA Sri Lanka office donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Department of Technical Education and Training (DTET) under the Skills Developmen­t, Employment and Labour Relations Ministry, for prevention of the COVID-19 outbreak.

KOICA Sri Lanka Country Director Kang Younhwa, KOICA Sri Lanka office Deputy Country Directors Kim and Lee Goon Woo and DTET Director General P.N.K. Malalaseka­ra and other respected guests attended to celebrate the event.

The PPE consisted of 18,750 surgical masks, 120,000 gloves and 750 hand sanitisers. Those will be provided to colleges of technology in Maradana, Kuliyapiti­ya, Kurunegala, Kandy, Warakapola and Kegalle. These institutio­ns are where KOICA volunteers were previously dispatched served. The number of total recipients is expected to reach 10,200.

Younhwa stated, “We hope this donation will help all the students and the members in Technical Colleges and Colleges of Technology under the DTET to prevent from this deadly disease COVID-19 and KOICA Sri Lanka office will continue its developmen­t assistance towards developmen­t of Sri Lanka and I hope that this donation would be helpful to the future endeavours of students in Sri Lanka.”

The DTET director general said, “I extend my deepest gratitude to KOICA Sri Lanka office and people and Government of Korea for this donation, which are invaluable for our institutio­ns and students to protect and prevent from the virus. We are always expecting KOICA’S continues corporatio­n to overcome this COVID-19 pandemic situation.”
