The number of recovered navy personnel surged to 204 when another 15 officers were discharged from hospital yesterday, Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said.

He told the media that 19 out of the 21 individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday were navy officers attached to the Welisara detachment while the two others were among those who were repatriated from London and directed to compulsory quarantine. “What is most satisfying is that we have not found any infected person from the society for more than two weeks. Until we find the last coronavirus afflicted soldier in the navy, we cannot claim to have fully controlled COVID-19,” he said. Meanwhile, NIID Chief Epidemiology Dr. Eranga Narangoda said four patients were discharged from NIID yesterday thereby taking total recoveries to 559. “There wasn’t a single patient who was admitted to NIID yesterday,” he said.
