BEING A MOTHER ....

-

Mother's day celebrated last week brought memories of our mothers, whether still with us or not. Proverbs 6.20 in the bible refers to 'the law of your mother'. I recall some of my mother's laws which helped me through life's journey. The law of my mother's perspective was when I would run to her upset about someone who had said or done something to hurt me in my childhood. She would say, 'pay no attention as years from now you would have forgotten all about it. Above all was my mother's law of faith. She had an unswerving faith in God which kept her strong amidst the fears, illnesses, pressures and trying times we faced as a family. These qualities of hers have been an inspiration and example to me which have helped through the steep and rugged pathways of life. Children are not a fashion accessory nor are they born because their mothers need someone to love. They do not ask to be born, so when they are, they deserve the very best from their parents. They need plenty of love, as well as discipline, protection and the need to be taught the difference between right and wrong. Motherhood is certainly not easy. Although it has its moments of unsurpassed happiness, when your children reach out to you with tender loving care. To amother, a child is always a child, even when they are adults. Concern for them and worrying about them is a continuous and ceaseless process. It's all part of the wonderful role of being a mother.
