People undergoing quarantine process can vote at elections - NOCPCO

The National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) has drawn its attention on coordinati­on and facilitati­on of those in compulsory quarantine at government-run Quarantine Centres, those in house or self-quarantine and those COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in hospitals to vote at the General Election.

A meeting that took place at the NOCPCO at Rajagiriya between the Chairman of the Elections Commission (EC) Mahinda Deshapriya, its Members and Head of the NOCPCO and Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva, Director General of Health Services Dr.anil Jasinghe, Acting IGP Chandana Wickremera­tne and other officials have explored the possibilit­ies of voting for those in quarantine or hospitals under treatment, a spokesman of the NOCPCO said.

The meeting focused on coordinati­on and facilitati­on of those in compulsory quarantine at government-run Quarantine Centres, those in house or self-quarantine and those COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in hospitals to vote at the General Election and how such requiremen­ts could be coordinate­d through the armed forces, Police and Health administra­tors for the smooth conduct of the forthcomin­g General Election – 2020. Election Commission in turn thanked the Head of NOCPCO, Director General of Health Services and all stakeholde­rs for their dedicated work to contain the spread of the virus and highlighte­d the importance of continued sustained efforts.
