2,207 election law violation cases reported so far: EC

The National Elections Commission has received a total of 2,207 complaints as of Tuesday 4.00 pm regarding election law violations and violent activities, the Commission said.

It said 604 violent activities had been reported to the National Election Complaint Management Centre while 1,602 complaints had been reported to District Election Complaint Management Centres.

During the 24 hours from Monday (06) to Tuesday 4.00 p.m, 123 complaints had been reported in connection with election law violations.

The Commission establishe­d a National Election Complaints Centre to receive complaints regarding promotions or demotions of any party/ group/ candidate or any action causing hindrance to the conduct of free and fair election during the election period, the National Election Commission said.

The centre was establishe­d in the Second Floor of the Election Secretaria­t, Rajagiriya.
