WPRFU lose voting rights at SLR AGM

Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) will not be able to exercise its voting rights at the Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) Annual General Meeting (AGM) after the Ministry of Sports confirmed on Friday (17) that they have lost the SLR membership following their failure to make membership payments on time.

As per the sections 16, 17 and 18 of the constituti­on of Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR), it’s recommende­d to cancel the SLR membership of Western Province Rugby Football Union and few other provincial unions due to their failure to make the membership payments to SLR for the year 2019

According to a letter from the Ministry of Sports which has been circulated among the provincial rugby unions by SLR, WPRFU and few other unions have lost the SLR membership.

“As per the sections 16, 17 and 18 of the constituti­on of Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR), it’s recommende­d to cancel the SLR membership of Western Province Rugby Football Union and few other provincial unions due to their failure to make the membership payments to SLR for the year 2019,” the letter reads.

However, five clubs will be able to exercise their voting rights during the AGM.

The letter reveals that as per the reports presented by the SLR Secretary and the Chief Executive Officer Central Province Rugby Football Union, Ruhuna Rugby Football Union, North Central Rugby Football Union, Sabaragamu­wa Rugby Football Union and North Western Rugby Football Union have made the membership payments and will be able to vote during the AGM.
