Trincomalee district association disqualified from voting at NFSL
The Election Committee (EC) of the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NFSL) has disqualified the Trincomalee District Association from participating in the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the federation.
It has been determined by the EC that the Trincomalee association has been inactive during the 2019-2020 period, according to NFSL Secretary Champa Gunawardena.
The NFSL has 36 affiliated associations out of which the coaches association, referees association and schools association don’t have voting rights, according to the constitution. Since the Trincomalee association has been disqualified from voting, 32 affiliated members are eligible to cast their votes at the AGM.
The NFSL election committee comprises of retired High Court Judge Justice Wimal Nambuwasam (chairman), former Director of Sports Padmajina Siriwardena and former Provincial Sports Director
R.G.N. Chandrasekera.
The AGM of the NFSL, where the election of office-bearers is to take place, will commence at 10 am on August 29 at the Sports Ministry auditorium. Nominations of office-bearers will close on July 24 at 2.30 pm. Any objections could be submitted between 10 am and 12 noon on July 27 at the NFSL headquarters. Objections, if any, would be examined between 2 pm and 4 pm the same day.
The incumbent officebearers are hoping to seek re-election at the NFSL AGM, according to sources.
However, discussions are on to bring a prominent candidate against the incumbent NFSL president, the sources added.
