The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association (BRJA) of Sri Lanka to elect office-bearers for 2020-2021 was held at the Duncan White auditorium of the Ministry of Sports last Saturday (18).
Capt. (Rtd.) R.K. Indrasena, a former National champion and coach Instructor, was re-elected uncontested as President of the BRJA for a third term. The two BRJA Vice Presidents are Major (Rtd.) P.L.J. Ratnasooriya and C.P.M. Nanayakkara who were elected uncontested.
Former National champion and Asian boxer Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Hemantha Weerasinghe was elected with majority votes for the key post of Secretary of the BRJA. Presently he sits in the R&J (Referees and Judges) Commission of the Asian Boxing Confederation and actively takes part in many international boxing tournaments as an ITO (International Technical Official).
Priantha Malavi, a former Royal College coach, a very senior referee and judge, and a chartered accountant, was re-elected as Auditor, uncontested for the 19th year in succession.
The priority of the BRJA for 2020-2021 would be to hold an AIBA 1-Star R&J course in Sri Lanka to elevate the National panel of referees and judges to the next level. A transparent system for evaluating the R&JS at the local boxing events and focus on developing new criteria to elevate boxing officials in order to provide more opportunities for them to take part in international tournaments is also planned. In addition, BRJA intends to launch sponsorships programmes to build the funds of the Association for the benefit of members.
