DEADPOOL 3 movie may never happen

Creator Liefeld is 'extremely PROUD' OF THE FIRST TWO MOVIES

-

Despite the first two movies earning over $1.5 billion worldwide, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld revealed he's not sure a third movie will happen. 2016's Deadpool ($363 million domestic, $782.6 million worldwide) and its 2018 follow-up Deadpool 2 ($324.5 million domestic, $785.7 million) were huge box office hits, though those were produced by 20th Century Fox before it was acquired by Disney. Since Disney rarely releases R-rated theatrical movies, it has left many wondering what the future of the Deadpool franchise, with Liefeld telling Collider he's not sure a third movie will happen, but he would be 'fine' if a third movie didn't happen. You know what? There may not be another Deadpool, and I'm fine.

Because I have to live with the fact that I had two amazing experiences, two movies I'm extremely proud of, I love knowing everybody on those movies,' Liefeld began.

I love Ryan [Reynolds], Josh [Brolin], Zazie [Beets], David [Leitch], Tim Miller. All of them. The work they did was fantabulous, those movies are here to stand the test of time,' Liefeld added. He also said that 'nothing is guaranteed' and in this postquarantine world, 'it's weird' when it comes to making movies.

The first Deadpool movie was in development for many years at 20th Century Fox, and was ultimately given the green light after the test footage shot by director Tim Miller leaked online and drew rave reviews from fans. Box office analysts were predicting between a $55 million and $60 million debut in February 2016, but it shattered all expectations, and a few records to boot.

Deadpool opened with a record $132.4 million, the highest opening weekend ever for an R-rated movie. The sequel was quickly given the green light, with Josh Brolin coming on board to play the beloved comic book character Cable.

There had been an X-force movie in development that Brolin was set to star in, with Liefeld revealing he thinks Brolin's Cable deserves his own movie series.

'Cable should have his own movie series. He can exist independent of Deadpool in a heartbeat. He has for years,' Liefeld said. He added that Deadpool has been in 330 comics and Cable has been in 520, before adding that he has become friends with Brolin 'In between Deadpool 2 wrapping and opening, I got really close with Josh. And he was very excited about exploring Cable in the subsequent sequels,' Liefeld added.

He also said the X-force movie that was being developed, 'was, in his own words, Cable-centric.' He also expressed his disappointment in FX pulling the plug on a Deadpool animated series with Donald Glover, due to creative differences.

'What I don't really understand is, given the audience, why isn't there a Deadpool cartoon yet? Like, I don't understand that. Right? … That was a gut punch,' he said. Ryan Reynolds had said in the past that a third Deadpool movie is happening, though there have been no official announcements quite yet.
