Colombo Dockyard completes steel modification repairs on FPSO Dhirubhai -1
Colombo Dockyard successfully completed extensive steel modification repairs on FPSO Dhirubhai -1, at HIPG.
The 290m long, 44m beam FPSO of GRT 97,660 is laid up in the Hambantota port for its next charter. It is owned by Aker Contracting FP ASA and managed by AFP Operations AS, Norway and has an oil production capacity of 60,000 barrels.
The floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit is a floating vessel used by the offshore oil and gas industry for the production and processing of hydrocarbons and the storage of oil.
A moon pool of almost 10m diameter needed to be permanently closed and Colombo Dockyard was called for the job. Shipyard pre-fabricated panels at the yard workshop in Colombo with LR Grade EH-36, shot blasted prime coated plates, then transported by land to the vessel in the Hambantota port, welded in place, where a total tonnage of over 28 tonnes were renewed.
The project team was coordinated by P.L. Ramesh Lahiru and the repairs were headed by Y.R.A.P.M. Rajapakse. The essential planning support was extended by Senior Engineer Planning Avantha Gunatilleka.
The professional support extended by the HIPG/HIPS teams across all levels from the top down to the operation levels must be mentioned and appreciated, which has resulted in Colombo Dockyard being able to promote Sri Lanka as a serious destination for ship repairs and shipbuilding.
Capt. Nikolaos Messinis, who is the master of the vessel, looked after the owner’s interest. The husbanding agents Hayleys Advantis Limited provided the necessary co-ordination support to manage the project smoothly and complete the project on schedule, meeting the owner’s and DNV Classification Society’s requirements.
Colombo Dockyard PLC operates in collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd, Japan, since 1993, providing ship repair and shipbuilding services to the global marine fraternity at one of the most strategic marine hubs, Sri Lanka.
