EC to inquire objections against NFSL nominations

- BY SUSIL PREMALAL

The Election Committee (EC) of the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NFSL) has received objections against all nominations for the election of office-bearers except for the post of Treasurer ahead of NFSL’S Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Nominations were accepted till July 24 and objections if any were allowed to be submitted before July 27.

Some affiliated associations of the NFSL have made written submissions to the three-man

EC that the nominations violated the Sports Law, Sports Ministry regulations and also the Federation’s Constitution.

Objections have been filed against candidates for the post of President, Vice-president, Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Treasurer which posts are being contested. There are no objections for the post of Treasurer who will be elected uncontested.

The EC will inquire into the objections against nominations on July 30 at the NFSL Headquarters.

The committee comprises retired High Court Judge Wimal Nambuwasam (Chairman), former Director of the Sports Development Department of the Sports Ministry Padmajina Siriwardena and former Sports Director of the North Central Province R. G. N. Chandrasekera.

The incumbent NFSL President Lakshmi Victoria is being contested by a former Additional Director of Sports of the Sports Development Department of the Sports Ministry Padma Baddawala. Significantly objections have been filed against the nomination of Victoria.

Several affiliates of the NFSL have found fault with the federation for not releasing the list of nominations before the closing date for objections were announced.
