Online portal launched to highlight higher education opportunities in Sri Lanka
As COVID-19 pandemic temporarily interrupts overseas study plans of Sri Lankan students, a reputed Overseas Education Consultant, Scholar Management Services (Pvt) Ltd has launched Sri Lanka Scholar, an online portal that highlights higher educational opportunities existing within the country.
Srilankascholar.lk highlights higher education opportunities in Sri Lanka’s private sector covering over 3000 courses by almost 200 local institutions including those offering foreign and local accreditation, including over 100 courses that provide eventual transfer options to Australia, UK, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Vietnam and Japan.
Addressing the launch event of the website, former Sri Lankan cricketer, Kumar Sangakkara who joined the Scholar Management Services (Pvt) Ltd as a director last year, highlighted that Sri Lanka Scholar would become a useful tool for students in pursuing their higher education, particularly in the current context.
“This kind of a resource centre is such an important tool in deciding your future education options or current education all in Sri Lanka with COVID-19 pandemic threatening the world affecting the ability of students to travel back and forth from Sri Lanka to overseas universities and vice versa,” he elaborated.
Scholar Management Services, CEO, Keerthi Jayasuriya also acknowledged that the website would provide alternative opptrunties for students to pursue their studies locally with COVID-19 pandemic putting a glitch on overseas studies. However, he noted that some courses which are locally available will also provide a pathway to overseas studies in the future.
The company also announced that it’s also working on acquiring information on courses offered by public institutions to its online database.
“The ultimate goal is to have this as a fully fledged resource centre for students to make use of and to understand what’s out there, so that they can really settle down with their future careers,” Sangakkara stressed.
Currently, the website has listed State accredited courses, training programmes such as National Vocational Qualification programmes which are offered for the betterment off students who have not completed Advanced Levels studies.
Sangakkara noted that their services are offered free-of-charge for students and parents. The company also has a platform dedicated for overseas education, International Scholar.
Jayasuriya stressed the need for State regulation of Overseas Education Consultants while pointing at many irregularities in the industry which have harmed students.
“It’s not just about sending students abroad, but about real solid guidance, hand holding , counselling and advise that students can make use of,” Sangakkara added.
