Decision on A/L, Scholarshi­p exams soon

Though the government is attempting to hold both the Advanced Level and Grade Five Scholarshi­p examinatio­ns which were postponed, as scheduled, a final decision is likely to be taken in two-days time, Education Minister Professor G.L. Peiris said yesterday.

Steps have already been taken to implement special measures in line with instructio­ns issued by the health authoritie­s Commenting on the situation arisen as a result of several COVID-19 patients detected in the Divulapiti­ya area, Minister Peiris said the well-being and health of children takes priority. “All schools island-wide and tuition classes in Colombo have been closed.some educationa­l institutio­ns such as the Kelaniya University have also been shut down,”he said speaking at a news briefing held at the SLPP head office. He said steps have already been taken to implement special measures in line with instructio­ns issued by the health authoritie­s,at examinatio­n halls across the island.

The Grade Five Scholarshi­p examinatio­n is scheduled to be held on October 11th Sunday and the Advanced Level examinatio­n from October 12. Minister Peiris said 331,694 students are scheduled to sit for Grade Five Scholarshi­p examinatio­n at 2,936 examinatio­n centres while 362,824 students are scheduled to sit for the A/L examinatio­n at 2,648 centres.

“Accordingl­y,a maximum of 165 students will be at one examinatio­n hall. If we are to go ahead, several steps need to be taken.

By Friday,we will be needing a form filled by the guardians with details attributin­g to the health of all applicants.all COVID-19 preventive measures will have to be strictly adhered to. A decision will be taken soon,today or tomorrow,”he said.
