DESIGNING A NEW HOME OR OFFICE ADAPTING FENG SHUI TENETS CALLS FOR GOOD CO-ORDINATION AND PLANNING BETWEEN THE UNIT OWNER, INTERIOR DESIGNER, ARCHITECT AND THE FENG SHUI CONSULTANT. A GOOD FENG SHUI ANALYSIS OF A SPACE SHOULD TAKE INTO ACCOUNT NOT ONLY THE INFLUENCE OF THE ENVIRONMENT, TIME PERIOD CHANGES BUT ALSO THE COMFORT OF THE OCCUPANTS, PRACTICALITY AND EASE OF EXECUTION.

There are various important factors which need to be considered while designing a home which includes, layout, interior design, décor and the elevation too. However positioning of the various rooms within the property, orienting the beds, toilet seats etc are very important aspects of Feng Shui design.

While each of the rooms in a home has a specific usage, the effect of the Feng Shui elements also needs to be taken into account. For example kitchen has elements like Fire, Water, Metal, Earth in the form of stove, sink, utensils, porcelain ware etc and wood element in the form of rolling pins, chopping boards, storage cabinets etc. Hence aligning the various energies within the kitchen to ensure that there is no elemental clash is of primary importance.

Similarly the position of toilets within the layout of the home, orienting toilet seats, etc have to be looked into with lot of care to ensure that the toilet energy does not mingle with the other positive energies in and around the home.

Some home designs have inadvertently positioned the toilet above the main door or entry point. This is quite a critical Feng Shui defect and has a major negative influence on the occupants. However one can change almost any so called "bad Feng Shui" situation for better if you know how to take care of it.

The toilet above main door influences the quality of the energy that comes into the home through the main door , some of the simple suggestions to counter such a situation are:

● Emphasize the good Feng Shui in the bathroom by strengthening the needed Feng Shui elements and keep the bathroom door closed at all times.

Having lighting fixture in the main entry, such as a crystal chandelier will further strengthen the division between the two spaces - the main entryway and the bathroom above it. Maintain good Feng Shui at the main entrance by visually heightening the main entry space to energetically push up the energy of the upper bathroom by using décor such as wall paper with vertical stripes, tall lamps on a console table, or a tall mirror near the entrance but ensure mirror does not face the main door entry point.

We need to keep in mind that there is no perfect Feng Shui home in reality and each home has its own limitations hence having a “defect” free home is more theoretical. However, one can counter the ill effects through various time tested Feng Shui remedies and cures

Create a strong, solid separation between the upper bathroom and the main entrance below it with a deep colour flooring or have a good quality bathroom rug in the same colours.

The above can counter the ill effects of toilets above entry points and mitigate the same even though the toilet will continue to remain physically in the same place.
