Well! It’s been more than ten months since the coronavirus surfaced on the face of Mother Earth. To say the least, things are not getting any better. In fact it is getting worse by the day. People are not prepared to change their lifestyles, except for what has been forced upon them. This pandemic is here to stay for some time, and no one knows for how long?

Either Mother Earth has protested with our callous and insatiable greed, gobbling up her natural resources and causing global warming. Or God is punishing us for disturbing the beautiful balance of the good and kind earth that He has created for us. Either way we are now warned by this pandemic, and are battling it with both our lost freedoms and choices to be made for our individual lifestyles.

Unlike other creatures, mankind has choices when it comes to necessities, wants and luxuries. Yet less than 1% of the 7.6 billion people on earth have 99% of all the world’s wealth. Oxfam is now on an urgent programme to break this abject inequality and spread the spoils among all humans. We must support this move at any cost. We have covertly or overtly changed our lifestyles. In this ongoing process we must recognize that we have to learn to accept changes that require us to gradually live a less affluent life. Someone concerned said we must give our children a new vitamin. It’s vitamin NO.

However, before correcting our children’s desires by limiting them, we must practice what we preach and deny ourselves a few luxuries ourselves. As to what they are, have to be listed and if really necessary shortlisted. Assuming you have catered for your necessities, you now have to shave off some wants and luxuries. You better start doing this right now, or you might find it difficult to achieve this later. This goes for your professional and/or business operation as well. Hence the sooner the better. Have no regrets.

Live by the dictum, non quam non paratus (never not ready). Be prepared for the worst and yet enjoy the simple things in life.
