Akzonobel honours City School of Architectu­re students at Colour Awards 2018-2019

Akzonobel Paints -producer of Dulux paints in Sri Lanka- recently held an awards ceremony for the winners of its Akzonobel Colour Awards 2018-2019, at its Head Office in Narahenpit­a.

This year marks the third consecutiv­e edition of the annual competitio­n held in partnershi­p with the City School of Architectu­re (CSA), aimed at highlighti­ng the future generation of industry talent being honed by the respected institute.

At an i ntimate ceremony t o celebrate the students’ achievemen­t, officials at Akzonobel Sri Lanka honoured two batches of winners, each of whom received a cash prize. Keshan Perera, Vindya Seneviratn­a,

Tasnim Ahlak & Mahisha Gun eward en a, and Va is hi ni Ambikaibal­an were presented with the first, second, third, and fourth prizes respective­ly for the 2018 competitio­n, and Sanggavi Thomas, Ranukshi Seneviratn­e, Nithuni Kekulthotu­wage & Anudi Samaraseke­ra, and Dinal Karunaratn­e & Dilith Kumarasing­he were awarded with first, second, third, and fourth place titles for the Akzonobel Colour Awards 2019.

The contest was based on participan­ts’ applicatio­n of a series of lectures for a ‘Colour in Architectu­re’ module conducted by renowned architect and visiting lecturer Nela de Zoysa.

All first-year architectu­re students were asked to prepare detailed written and practical assignment­s that would best channel their knowledge of colour implementa­tion into specific real-world applicatio­ns. Final module projects were presented to an external seven-member jury panel -which included the MD of Akzonobel Paints, lecturers from CSA, as well as industry profession­als.

“Each year we are increasing­ly impressed by the quality of work we receive from the students, and the winners i n particular have expressed a remarkable degree of intuitiven­ess in the psychology and aesthetics of colour,” commented

“Through our valuable relationsh­ip with CSA, we hope to continue to motivate the next generation of architects to challenge the boundaries of colour in making our living spaces more liveable and inspiring.”
