Twinery of MAS Holdings puts SL under fresh spotlight
■ Only regional apparel manufacturer and SL’S first to be recognised by Clarivate ■ One of six corporates to receive title amongst top 28 organisations ■ Company has 64 patient families and 170 patent applications filed globally
Twinery, the innovation arm of MAS Holdings, was officially bestowed with the South and South East Asia Innovation Award this week, making it the only apparel manufacturing company in the region and Sri Lanka’s first to be recognised by Clarivate’s annual awards.
Ranking amongst the top 28 organisations to receive the innovation award, MAS Holdings was one of the six corporates to receive the title. The award is based on an analysis of patent volume, citation volume, patent success and the level of globalisation, using patent data from Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) and Derwent Patent Citations Index. The company that started as contract apparel manufacturers three decades ago, today has grown to become a leader in making available to the global market smart and innovative garments.
“Our innovation journey started in 2013 and we now offer our customer a range of smart products. We have brought to the market innovative products that meet unmet needs of our customers. Being recognised in an international level for our innovative efforts brings us lots of confidence,” said MAS Co-founder/ Chairman Mahesh Amalean, addressing the felicitation ceremony of the Clarivate Innovation Awards for South and South East Asia, arranged in Colombo last evening.
The event was graced by the senior officials of the Twinery team of MAS, while Amalean and the representatives of Clarivate PLC, formerly Thompson Reuters, joined the event virtually.
Applauding t he MAS team for their continued efforts in pushing forward the apparel manufacturer’s innovation agenda, Amalean stressed that the award is a tribute to the young professions who strive to come out with out-of-the-box solutions, ensuring innovation is very much part of the fabric of MAS.
MAS Chief Innovation Officer Ra nil Vita ran a shared that the company boasts a portfolio of 64 patient families and has 170 patent applications filed globally, including in the USA, UK, Europe, China, Japan and Australia.
“We aim to achieve much more by 2025. IP has become very much part of our DNA and given that we are a profit-oriented company, we ensure that these IPS are financially feasible and give us a return,” he said.
Vita ran a pointed out that by focusing on this direction, MAS has been able to incorporate electronics into apparel and textiles.
Meanwhile, according to Clarivate, 43 percent of leading innovators in the region are corporations that are rapidly adapting to serve the needs of the changing world to create sustainable growth.
Furthermore, start-ups are leveraging technology to solve unique customer problems, thus disrupting business models and driving t he adoption of their products and services at an unprecedented pace.
