Several Sri Lankan born British citizens have kept our flag flying high by being named in Queen Elizabeth‘s New Year Honours list. They are Professor Ravi Silva Director, Advanced Technology Institute, University of Surrey,who received a CBE for his outstandin­g services to Science, Education and Research over the last three decades. Professor Mohan Edirisingh­e who holds the Bonfield Chair of Biomateria­ls in the department of Mechanical Engineerin­g at University College, London and has been conferred with an OBE. Professor Ramani Moonesingh­e who is Professor of Perioperat­ive Medicine and Consultant Aneastheti­st, University of London has received the OBE for services to Anaesthesi­a, Perioperat­ive and Critical Care. Gajan Waloopilla­i former Conservati­ve Councillor in Richmond receives the OBE for his services to Equality and Community Cohesion. Dr Shikandhin­i Kanagasund­ram, Director Infection Prevention and Control and Consultant Microbiolo­gist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust received the OBE for services to microbiolo­gy, infection control and prevention particular­ly during the Covid crisis. Mohamed Hazrath Haleem Ossman receives the OBE for services to the Sri Lankan community in London.he is a businessma­n, an old boy of S. Thomas' College. Mt Lavinia. We congratula­te and are proud of them but regret that our nation has lost these most eminent people.
