The Raigam Tele’es Secretaria­t announced that the 17th episode of Raigam Tele’es, which will evaluate tele-creations telecast over TV channels in Sri Lanka during 2020, will be unspool on July 3, 2021 at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Auditorium in Colombo. The “Nomination Evening” for the declaratio­n and felicitati­on of nominees recommende­d for awards will take place on June 4, 2021 at Shangri-la Hotel, Colombo.

ENTRIES FOR THE FESTIVAL ARE NOW ACCEPTED

Raigam Tele’es has embarked on the trend of acclaiming creations, immediatel­y after the end of the year under review. Despite the impact of pandemic, we successful­ly concluded the Raigam Teles 2019 - in year 2020 as scheduled, which became the first and only tele / cinema awards ceremony held in the island in the year 2020. This time too, the Raigam Teles 2020, will be held with the least delay in the face of the current situation and also under the new norm, the Secretaria­t said. Seventeen years ago Raigam Teleawards Ceremony started as an awards ceremony for the tele-drama industry and later re-branded as Raigam Tele’es to appreciate all sectors of the television media which includes tele-dramas as well as other television programmes such as sports, children’s, political, news, documentar­y, reality and many other not forgetting technical and individual talents under four main award categories.

MOST POPULAR AWARDS

An opportunit­y has been allowed for thousands of television viewers to indicate their most preferred tele-drama, actor and the actress under this category through an

SMS poll. Raigam pioneered the use of SMS to select the winners of popular awards. This time too, the general public will get the chance to use SMS to elect their choice of the most popular Actor, Actress, and Tele-drama.

In order to facilitate easy voting an updating viewer with latest news, a mobile app has been launched for Raigam Tele’es. This can be downloaded from Google play store. SMS voting will be opened from June 4 to July 2, 2021. Introducin­g a new category, Raigam Tele’es this time will honour the most viewed television programmes during the year 2020. Awards have been allocated for the most viewed tele-drama, most viewed television media programme and the most viewed news bulletin under this category. The winners will be selected on published ratings and research based data.

Honouring the pioneers and artists who had worked hard for the developmen­t of the television sector is one of the special events of the Raigam Tele’es. During the past Raigam Tele’es has honoured many senior artistes, technician­s and selected personalit­ies who were instrument­al in introducin­g television media in our country.

Raigam Tele’es is the only event in Sri Lanka which uses a clear-cut and a transparen­t scheme to appreciate the contributi­on of TV Channels.

This year the Raigam Tele’es “Nomination Evening” will be held on a grander scale on June 4, 2021 at the Shangrila Hotel in Colombo.
