THE UK - NO LONGER A FRIEND OF THE SRI LANKANS
It is an accepted fact that the Tamil Diaspora overseas funded the military organisation in Sri Lanka which killed thousands of civilians in their places of work and other locations including those travelling in public transport. after the end of the conflict, the hopes of these same Diaspora groups of forming a separate state called Eelam were dashed, and they became a disillusioned group determined to discredit the Sri Lankan government in whatever way possible. they carried out very effective propaganda in England spreading falsehoods that the Sri Lanka army killed 40,000 civilians in the final days of the conflict without any evidence of other substantiation. In England, they formed an important voter base and is considered a formidable asset in the political firmament.
On January 5, 2021 they addressed a letter to Rt. Hon. Dominic Raab MP, Secretary of State For Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs and Rt. Hon. Lord Ahmed of Wimbledon, Minister for South Asia and the Commonwealth, Foreign and Commonwealth Office with a copy to Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson the Prime Minister under the following headings,
“Request to the UK Government to Sponsor a resolution to create an independent investigation Mechanism relating to Sri Lanka at the 46th UN Human Rights Council”
In this letter, it is claimed that a genocide occurred in Sri Lanka and an independent Commission should be set up on the same lines as the one established for Myanmar. This letter which contains unsubstantial accusations against the Government of Sri Lanka is signed by 229 Tamil groups, and commercial establishments in England and gives us insight of the widespread network of the group and their funding capability, particularly the disbursements of funds during the conflict.the LTTE armed outfit had all the advanced weaponry, and machinery necessary for combat and were also in the process of building a submarine and it is obvious that the funds emanated from these sources in England and also from the U.S. It is inevitable that the resolution in Geneva was triggered off by this letter, and it is disappointing that a fellow member of the Commonwealth has forgotten the atrocities done by this terrorist organisation and that they would accept and their support to these ridiculous and false claims.
The people of this country have suffered immensely over the past two years with the Easter Sunday bombing followed by the Covid pandemic and this stab in the back by our erstwhile friend the United Kingdom is a great disappointment and is an unkind thrust as they have put their weight and support behind the protagonists of terrorism disregarding the views aspirations of the majority of those over twenty million, living in the country.
