DMT to implement new prebooking system with SLT

-

Cabinet nod has been granted for Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) to obtain service facilities from State-owned Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) to implement a prebooking system with SME alerts for the public at the Head Office and all other district offices in order to reduce congestion.

Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge on Monday received Cabinet approval for the project.

It was noted that a large number of commuters gather at the DMT head office in Narahenpita, Werahera Office Branch and other district level offices to obtain services.

“Since both the commuters and the officers of the Department are suppressed due to the prevailing circumstances, it has been planned to apply solutions by utilising novel information and communication technology for activities such as allocating a scheduled time ahead of time to obtain their services, obtaining a number/ token for that, guiding to access the relevant divisions for services and notification of relevant information by SMS etc,” the Government Information Department said.

Under phase one of the project, DMT head office Narahenpita, Werahera Office Branch and five other District Secretariats are expected to be equipped with online facilities. Under the second stage, the project will be extended to other remaining district offices.

DMT currently issues new smart card driving licences at its head office in Narahenpita, Werahera Office Branch as well as at district offices in Kurunegala, Hambantota, Gampaha, Anuradhapura, Kalutara, Jaffna and Monaragala using the online method.
