Call for donors for a good cause

-

The Mother Charitable Foundation, a non-profit Organisation that serves children and adults with special needs has been instrumental in improving life skills of children with Down’s Syndrome, Autism and other health conditions. For 10 years many underserved segments in society such as children with AIDS and Cancer have benefited from activities done by MCF and they are determined to improve services to cater to a wider audience and bring about equality among all strata of society.

Irrespective of issues, the children at the Foundation have participated at various concerts, competitions and have received standing ovations. However, the children would further benefit if they are trained on day-life skills on a daily basis and develop a connection with their parents. This is why plans are underway to set up the ‘Pathum Uyana Educational and Skills Development Centre for Children and Adults with Special Needs’ under the purview of the parent body, MCF.

“Right now we are at a rented space but we want to build a school with residential facilities. It will accommodate 100 children and the main objective is to teach them day-life skills and bridge the communication gap between parents and children. Due to the pandemic children who visit the Centre daily are unable to come and they can’t study online,” said Dinesh Manjula Fernando of MCF.

The Centre caters to children with learning disabilities and they are being taught dancing, art, mathematics, speech therapy and even vocational training etc.. A physiotherapist also visits them to check on their health. “These days they are making key tags out of coconut husks,” said Dinesh. “So far we have received Rs. One million and we would like to invite donors and well wishers to contribute to this cause and fulfill our dream.”
