OPPOSITION CAN ONLY DREAM OF TOPPLING GOVERNMENT

● The year 2022 before us should be considered a year that we will win challenges, and we all must unite to win them

- BY YOHAN PERERA

Opposition members have a right to dream of toppling the government, but they must understand that they should be able to get people to govern a country, Chief Government Whip Minister Johnston Fernando said yesterday. Addressing a ceremony held yesterday at Kurunegala Sir John Kotelawala Vidyalaya to commence a project to develop access roads to schools and hospitals, the Minister of Highways said they would have to live in those dreams for years to come. It is worthy if they shift from those dreams and instead think how to get out of the present crisis,” the Minister said.

“There is no point in opposition criticising the government for prevailing shortcomings and crises. What is important is finding solutions to get out of them I have challenged the opposition to come up with alternative solutions if they have any. So far, they have not been able to suggest a course of recovery out of crises. We must think as a nation how to win the challenges before us.” he added.

The Minister said that he had instructed Secretary to the Ministry of Highways R.W.R. Pemasiri to provide him with an immediate report on the status of the entry roads to all schools and hospitals countrywide.“we will identify the roads that needed to be upgraded and commence work immediately to develop access roads to the hospitals and schools. I instructed the Secretary to issue instructions to the officials of the Road Development Authority’s regional offices to assess the conditions of access roads to the hospitals and schools in their respective areas. I have received letters from the public to develop access roads to the schools and hospitals,” he said.
