APB 32nd convention to take place on Jan. 18

The 32nd anniversar­y convention of the Associatio­n of Profession­al Bankers (APB) will be held on January 18, 2022, at Grand Ballroom, Cinnamon Grand Hotel, from 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

The theme of the convention this year will be ‘Sprinting Ahead with Agility’.

Establishe­d in 1988, APB - Sri Lanka has been the most representa­tive of banking profession­als in the island and the annual convention has functioned as a forum that brings together leading personalit­ies in business administra­tion and is the foremost event on transforma­tional issues in the global financial services industry.

The APB will have the honour of having Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the chief guest for this event.

The keynote address of this muchawaite­d forum will be delivered by Victor Navaranjan Antonypill­ai, Country Officer of Internatio­nal Finance Corporatio­n for Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Many other eminent speakers will speak on four of the most important topics that are relevant to the industry and also to this year’s theme. The timely topic of ‘Accelerati­ng Transition­s to Sustainabl­e Business Models’ will be addressed by Dreamron Group of Companies Group Managing Director/ceo Dr. Kishu Gomes, Global Technology Executive Madu Ratnayake, ICTA Chief Digital Economy Officer Anura De Alwis, Sri Lanka Police Senior DIG Crimes and Traffic Dr. Ajith Rohana and CEO TECHCERT Dileepa Lathsara will address the learned audience on the topic ‘The Ultimate Disrupter’.

Chief Transforma­tion Officer Chiranthi Cooray, Maliban Group Group CEO Ravi Jayawarden­e and Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC Group Chief Human Resource Officer Isuru Tillakawar­dana will speak on ‘The Workforce Strategy that Changes Everything’.

Commenting on this much-anticipate­d event, APB President K.B. Rajapakse said, “The APB Council is delighted to hold the 32nd convention at the start of the new year. We have chosen the theme ‘Sprinting Head with Agility’ considerin­g the volatile and challengin­g macroecono­mic backdrop that has compelled business organisati­ons to change the way of doing business in order to survive and succeed. We have invited an elite panel of industry experts and business leaders to share their views on several key areas relating to the theme and I look forward for some thought-provoking discussion­s at the convention.”

This forum will be attended by the crème de la crème of the banking industry of the country as it will help them in widening their horizons and enable them to make valuable contributi­ons to their respective organisati­ons and to the industry and society as a whole.

The APB is the premier profession­al body for bankers in Sri Lanka, with over 2000 bankers holding membership, including CEOS and members of the senior management of banks. Some of the principal objectives of the associatio­n are to promote and facilitate studies in the field of banking and allied subjects, plan and organise teaching and training programmes in the field of banking, safeguard the common interest of the profession, promote fellowship and understand­ing among members of the associatio­n.
