Sigera misses second ton

Asel Sigera missed his second ton in the ongoing 19th David Pieris Group of Companies sponsored,“dpgc” Challenge Trophy – MCA “E” division 30 – Over League Tournament 2022, continued over last weekend.

Sigera remained unbeaten on 92, facing only 52 balls, hitting six towering sixes and equal number of fours, as Fairfirst Insurance raced to 258 for 8 in 30 overs to beat Ceylinco General Insurance by 92 runs. Fairfirst Insurance skipper Lakshan Perera, too helped towards the winning course with a swashbuckl­ing 61 runs in 37 balls, inclusive of four hits over the ropes and six boundaries.this was Fairfirst’s third win on the trot.

Earlier on, Sigera had scored 96 not out against Mobitel.

The weekend’s batting honours went to HSBC’S Malinda Rushan who scored a quick fire 128 in 90 balls, inclusive of six sixes and a dozen of fours against. Janashakth­i Insurance batsman Madawa Munaweera’s 92 for Brandix Essentials against John Keells “B” was note worthy .

The best bowling was by Sumudu Wijesinghe of Union Assurance who finished with incredible figures of 6-2-30-6, but his effort went a begging as they lost the game to LOLC by two wickets.

The most exciting game for the weekend was between

Hirdaraman­i and Commercial Credit & Finance. Commercial Credit chasing a victory target of 160 runs in 30 overs was looking down the barrel, tottering at 72 for 8, then the unexpected happened. When all was lost No. 10 batsman, D. Gunawarden­a joined Sahan Ranasinghe, the not out batsman at the crease, and they turned the tide by putting on 91 runs in 66 balls, unfinished for the ninth wicket, to carry Commercial Credit to a heart stopping two wickets win with 17 balls to spare (163 for 08 in 27.1 ).

Gunawarden­a remained 52 not out and Ranasinghe was 29 not out at the end.
