Trinity College will kick off their rugby season for 2022 when they host S. Thomas' College at their Pallekelle Rugby Stadium today.

This encounter will be played for the Canon R.S. de Saram Shield, with Thomians being the holders after winning the last encounter in 2021, 17-14 which was played at Havelock Park three months back. Kick off is scheduled at 4.15 pm.

Trinity College leads the head-to-head with 25 wins, with S. Thomas’ claiming the encounter on 18 occasions, and one tie.

Trinity is led by Lithmal Moragoda while S. Thomas' is captained by Chariya Kurukulasuriya.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Thomians Head Coach, Shamly Nawaz said,“we had a late start to training with the local Ordinary Level examinations and other exams getting on the way during the pre-season. But the lads showed lot of commitment and motivation to play the game they loved so much from childhood onwards. I am very happy to see we clicking as one unit within a very short span of time. Chariya will lead from the front with few seniors guiding them this season. We are sticking to a very basic game plan and expecting few freshers to deliver the goods. Overall it’s a development year for the Thomians in 2022."

Trinity Head Coach, Kavinda Jayasena said,"we are very happy to be back and play schools rugby after a two year wait. We are very fortunate to play three games in the

2021 school season. This is purely with the support we received from the College authorities and Rugby Scrummage. We have been practicing very hard and the boys are doing well. We want to end the season on a high note bringing back our usual high quality and pattern of rugby this season."
