ANANDA COLLEGE BEAT HINDU COLLEGE JAFFNA BY 81 RUNS

Ananda College Colombo scored an 81-run win over Hindu College Jaffna in their annual Sivaguruna­than Trophy cricket encounter at the Ananda College Grounds yesterday.

Put into bat Ananda College racked up 197 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs.

A century partnershi­p of 112 runs for the fourth-wicket by Iruth Gilshan and Kitma Sithmal steered the Colombo 10 team towards a comfortabl­e total.

Gilshan was unbeaten on 80 which included seven hits to the ropes and four over, while Sithmal scored a steady 69 with seven fours and two sixes.

K. Tharanisan was the most successful Jaffna bowler to capture 2 for 18.

In reply, the lads from Jaffna, except for N. Piriyandan who top scored with 43, found some difficulty in coping with the on the spot bowling of Ayesh Shashimal and Kitma Sithmal and were 116 for 7 in 20 overs.

In the Old Boys match Ananda College Old Boys beat Hindu College Jaffna Old Boys by 43 runs in a 15-over-a-side match at the same venue played prior to the Sivaguruna­than Trophy game.
