Introducin­g Padel Tennis To Sri Lanka

Elevating sports and recreation in the heart of the city, Padel House has just introduced the sport Padel Tennis to Sri Lanka, a sport very common in Spain and Argentina. Padel Tennis is a combinatio­n of the sports tennis and squash. It is a very interestin­g, innovative, entertaini­ng and engaging sport. It is a sport for any level of sportsman, whether you are a beginner or a profession­al it is a sport guaranteed to catch your interest. Padel

House, Sri Lanka’s first ever Padel tennis court is located at No.9 Keppetipol­a Road, Colombo 05. The Public Launch took place at the Padel House courts on 27th of February.

The State-of-the-art Facility has been designed with meticulous attention to detail and equipped with the latest technology that meets internatio­nal standards, providing players with a top-notch sporting experience. The Co-founders, Rajeev Rajapakse and Shamal Perera had participat­ed in playing the sport abroad and that sparked their interest in bringing it here to Sri Lanka.

The special guest of the evening was the Minister of Sports and Youth affairs of Sri Lanka, Harin Fernando. Other guests included friends, family and some prominent public figures.

Co-founder Mr. Rajeev Fernando, in his speech gave a brief explanatio­n on how you play Padel tennis and why he wanted to introduce it to Sri Lanka. Thereafter, Minister Harin Fernando also expressed his thoughts about the sport and said that he hopes it will become the 73rd official sport in Sri Lanka. Commenting on the functional aspect, Director Padel House Rajeev Rajapakse said “At Padel House, we are passionate about the technical brilliance of Padel. It combines strategy, skill, and sheer enjoyment on the court.

The adaptabili­ty of the game allows players, irrespecti­ve of their age, fitness levels or skills at racquet sports to engage in a game and have a fantastic time. Our dream is that Padel Tennis will become an Olympic sport and that Sri Lanka will also be a part of it”.

During the event, the guests were given an opportunit­y to watch an exhibition match explaining and showcasing the true beauty and excellence of the sport. Minister Harin Fernando also took part in the sport by playing a quick round with Rajeev Fernando. “Padel is easy to pick up, yet intricate enough to offer a compelling challenge. We are excited to share the technical intricacie­s of Padel Tennis with the Sri Lankan community” said Rajapakse.

The night ended with cocktails and finger food. All in all the event was a wonderful experience, introducin­g us to Sri Lanka’s latest trendy sport.

Anyone interested in sports should go and try out Padel tennis which is a very interestin­g and enjoyable sport.
