16-member squad for Asian Youth TT Tourney

The Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka (TTASL) have selected a 16-member contingent targeting the fourth South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships, which will be held from May 26 to 29 at the Municipal Council Indoor Stadium in Kandy.

All South Asian countries except for Bhutan have confirmed their participation, TTASL Organising Committee Chairman and former TTASL President Chandana Perera said yesterday.

The tournament will be conducted in the junior – Under-19 and Cadet – Under-15 categories for Boys and Girls.

The Sri Lanka Under-15 Boys’ and Girls’ Team will include eight players while the Sri Lanka Under-19 Boys’ and Girls’ Team will include eight players with the squad to be approved by the Sports Minister Harin Fernando.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan contingent started their residential training programme at the Municipal Council Indoor Stadium in Kandy.

The TTASL will conduct the tournament at a cost of Rs. 20m.

(Under-15 Girls’ Team): Yoshini Jayawardana (Mahamaya), Muthuli Sahanya (Southlands), Samindi Weerasooriya (Good Shepherd Convent), Mekalya Fernando (Elizabeth Moir),

(Under-15 Boys’ Team): Akain Bojith (Dharmasoka), Naviru Nethsitha (Dharmasoka), Agasthya Ananditha (Bond International School), Senul Rathnayake (Dharmaraja)

(Under-19 Girls’ Team): Bimandi Bandara (Hillwood), Tamadi Kavindya (Sri Devananda), Divya Dharani (Dharmasoka), Lesanya Sethumdee (Dharmasoka), Sandithi Jayasinghe (Musaeus).

(Under-19 Boys’ Team): Shafiullah Akram (Trinity), Janith Batugedara (Royal), Diran Hamer (Royal), Saluka Premachandra (Ananda), Vinuka Gunawardena (Royal).
