Three member inquiry board to investigate Fox Hill tragedy
The Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS), the national controlling body for automobile sports in Sri Lanka has appointed an inquiry board comprising three independent members to investigate the tragedy which happened at the Fox Hill Super Cross Motor Racing event on April 21.
President’s Counsel Chandana Liyanapatabendy will be heading the inquiry panel appointed by the controlling body to study facts and circumstances of the incident, specially to inspect the surroundings and track, with two eminent personalities, Sanjaya Gamage, former secretary of the Bar Association and former deputy chairman of Public Utilities Commission with Vijaya Gamage, former banker, Lawyer and the Ex-president of Colombo Law Society.
The members of the inquiry body expect to inspect the surroundings and track starting from the morning of May 1. Chandana Liyanapatabendy, PC, told the Daily Mirror that the inquiry board has been tasked with thoroughly investigating the incident and submitting a detailed report regarding it.
Seven individuals including an eight-year-old child were killed and 20 others hospitalized with injuries when two racing cars lost control and collided with a group of spectators during the 17th race of the 1500cc Ford Laser Mazda 323 category.
